Hi everyone!
Today we are reporting on our stall at the United by Steel Gala at Glanford Park, Scunthorpe United FC’s home ground. The pictures show our stall being put up, being run during the day, and some of the winners at the stall.
The event was a collaboration between Scunthorpe United and the front-of-shirt sponsor British Steel, bringing back the celebration of the town’s major employer after a number of years.
I myself can remember going to Appleby Frodingham Steel Gala’s in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, very much a family friendly event aimed at steelworkers families.
Friends of Pakati has attended several similar events previously, including Open Days and Community Days at the club, and have always had great support from the club itself, and great generosity from the fans every time.
On the day this time, we ran a number of activities, as a means of raising funds for us, such as Tombola, Raffle, Guess the name of the Teddy Bear, Guess the numer of Seets in a Jar, and a Lucky Dip.
Throughout the day we had a number of people helping out, including in no particular order, Harley Glossop, Alison Redhead, Charlotte Cowgill, Cuan Forrest & Hannah Redhead, so a huge THANK YOU to them all👏👏👏👏
During the event as well as people donating funds & playing the games to win prizes, there were some donating goods, both to raise funds but also for us to send out to the two Pakati schools.
We had a steady flow of visitors throughout the event, which for us ran from 10am to 3pm, with over an hour both setting up & taking down.
Lots of people were already aware of Friends of Pakati, but we had a good number of others finding out about us for the first time.
To have raised another £192 at the end of the day was a great result for us, showing us yet again the amazing generosity of Iron fans, as we have reported after a previous event: https://friendsofpakati.com/2026/03/15/iron-fans-prove-their-generosity-again/
Its always good to see people happy with their winnings!
We had a few items left from the Tombola, including the 3 games pictured below, as well as some books for younger children donated by the McClements family of Iron fans,.
These are being added to other items already donated at the most recent Community Day.
All in all, another successful event for us, so a big thank you to both Scunthorpe United – especially to Devon Riley, Glyn Sparks and James Moody – and to British Steel – especially Lisa Coulson – for organising the day.
