African music – Authors favourites

I have always loved listening to different types of music, and was lucky to be in Zimbabwe during a time when there was a vibrant live music scene. I went to see several local acts and from other African countries. Here are my favourite acts I have seen, and my favourite African songs. They relate mostly to my time in Zimbzbwe & Botswana.

The top African acts I have seen:

The Real Sounds of Africa, the Four Brothers, Kanda Bongo Man, Stella Chiweshe, Jonah Moyo, Bhundu Boys, The Runn Family, Black Umfolosi, Robson Banda & the Black Eagles, Biggie Tembo & the Ocean City Band, and the recently late Oliver Mtukudzi (RIP)

Favourite African songs

RUDO IMOTO – the Four Brothers

OMBA – the Real Sounds of Africa

CHIGWINDIRI – Thomas Mapfumo & the Blacks Unlimited

SANA – Kanda Bongo Man

LILIZELA M’LILIZELA – Mahlatini & the Mahotella Queens

TOGETHER AS ONE – Lucky Dube

SHOSHOLOZA – Ladysmith Black Mambazo (1995 Rugby World Cup version)

NERIA – Oliver Mtukudzi
