My name is Chris Walker, and between January 1989 and September 1991 I worked, through VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), at Pakati Secondary School in Murehwa South district in Zimbabwe. I was a Maths teacher for 2 years, the Acting Head for the last 8 months there. I have also taught in Botswana & the UK, had 4 years working for VSO, and have been a Civil Servant in Bradford since 2005.

  1. Oh my Word, Mr. Walker! My name is Chrispen Jambwa, Son to Retired Teacher Jambwa of Zhakata School, near Pakati School, resident at Chigwada Village. I remember you would come at our homestead and have lunch with us. Mum would make you our favorite Zimbabwean cuisine for special visitors- sadza and chicken (roadrunner).
This was my first close contact with a white man, the memories are so engraved in my mind, I was 3 then in 1989
By then my brother Sam and I could not understand English, and so keen to the extent of imitating your accent. We would speak our Shona words holding tight our nose. That was fun, lol
It is my wish that you reconnect with my dad.

    1. Hi Crispen, many thanks for your comments! I very much enjoyed your father’s company & remember your family’s hospitality to me. I did enjoy the food provided very much. I have had some contact with a member of your family & had a picture onr Jambwa sent to me recently. I am hoping to visit Zimbabwe & Pakati in particular in late September/early October this year. If so then I would be delighted to meet up once more
      Kind regards
      Chris Walker
